Welcome! We’re thrilled that you want to be a Silverback. Our Summer Season is coming up quickly and we have a very exciting training program designed to develop your speed, strength, and technique.
Youth Age Divisions:
Youth competitions typically take place in two-year age divisions. These age divisions provide young athletes the opportunity to compete with other athletes of similar ability.
Age divisions for competition year 2018
* Per USATF Rule 300.1 (c) “Athletes must be at least seven (7) years of age on December 31 of the current year to compete at the Youth Athletics or Junior Olympic National Championships.”
** Athletes who are still 18 through the final day of the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships are eligible to compete in the 17-18 age division through that meet. This extended eligibility does not apply to cross country events.
Fees & Registration:
Registration is quick and easy. Just follow the steps listed below and use our Silverback Track Club Registration Checklist to make sure you’ve taken care of everything necessary.
This season we are introducing levels of training based on age, experience, and ability in order to concentrate and focus on each group’s needs. Our levels of training are based on age, experience, and ability in order to concentrate and focus on each group’s needs. Since we are the Silverbacks, we’ve divided our age groups into gorilla group names (just to make it fun). We want each athlete placed appropriately in order to build confidence and ability. Each athlete will either start at their age-appropriate level or be placed at a high level once advancement minimums have been verified. If you know you have a verifiable time/distance you can register at the appropriate advanced level. Every athlete will have the opportunity to move up at any time during the season.
Eastern Lowland Band (boys & girls ages 7/8 & 9/10). This group is ideal for kids who have no track experience and who may only want to compete in a few meets. Your athlete will learn basic running skills, build overall strength, balance, and timing, and learn the basics of track and field. All athletes at this level can freely compete in any of the meets offered by the Boulder Road Runner’s Club and Valor Christian High School. USA Track and Field meets as well as Colorado Junior Olympics will be by invitation only (minimum times as well as maturity). 9/10 year olds can get placed into the next level at any time during the season.
Western Lowland Troop (boys & girls ages 9/10 & 11/12). This group is for athletes who have some experience and/or who have met requirements to advance into the group. We will begin to fine tune your technique and build upon what you’ve already learned. All athletes at this level can freely compete in any of the meets offered by the Boulder Road Runner’s Club, Valor Christian High School, and USA Track and Field. Participation in Colorado Junior Olympics will be by invitation only (minimum times as well as maturity). 11/12 year olds can get placed into the next level at any time during the season.
Cross River Whoop (boys & girls ages 11/12 & 13/14). This group is for athletes who have some experience and/or who have met requirements to advance into the group. Training becomes more advanced as you begin to prepare for middle school and high school track and field. Athletes at this level are welcome to train on a second day during the summer in order to best prepare for competition. All athletes at this level can freely compete in any of the meets offered by the Boulder Road Runner’s Club, Valor Christian High School, and USA Track and Field, including Colorado Junior Olympics. 13/14 year olds can get placed into the next level at any time during the season.
Mountain Elite (boys & girls ages 13/14, 15/16 & 17/18). Minimum times are required for 13/14 year olds to participate in this group with either a verifiable time from any meet or a time try-out. Training intensifies at this level. Athletes at this level are welcome to train on a second day during the summer in order to best prepare for competition. Special training arrangements are also available at this level. All athletes at this level can freely compete in any of the meets offered by the Boulder Road Runner’s Club, Valor Christian High School, and USA Track and Field, including Colorado Junior Olympics.
Option #1: $325 – Sunday Practices starting Sunday, 3/18/18. This is the best opportunity to get in the most training before competition begins in May. Option #2: $235 – Sunday Practices starting Sunday, 4/29/18. This option is good for those needing a later start.
Option #3: $180 – Sunday Practices starting Sunday, 5/20/18. This is great for high school and middle school athletes that just finished with spring sports.
Additional Practice Add-On: $125 – Tuesday Practices starting Tuesday, 6/5/18. Only available to Cross River Whoop and Mountain Elite.

At this time we cannot offer refunds.
Each athlete will have to pay their own meet fees. Typically, the fee is $5.00-$10.00 per event for the outdoor season, depending on the meet. Most athletes will compete in 2-3 events per meet. Admission fees are not usually required for athlete or spectator. We will send a PayPal request to each athlete before the registration deadline for each meet. We communicate with the team via TeamSnap. Once you are registered you will receive a request to join TeamSnap.
Silverback Track Club does not pay for an athlete’s transportation, accommodations, or other expenses for any type of meet. If an athlete qualifies for certain meets that require travel, et al, the athlete will need to cover all costs.
If you are a current member of Silverback Track Club AND have a current USATF membership you do not need to fill out our registration form again. Just reply to the invitation email we’ll send you to let us know which option you’re choosing and we will send you an invoice.

Process for New Athletes***
Step 1: Fill out our required online registration form below and submit immediately.
Step 2: Join USATF right away and submit your athlete’s birth certificate for verification. An athlete will NOT be allowed to practice with us, register for a sanctioned meet, or compete without a USATF membership and birth-certificate verification. If you have been with Silverback Track Club you do not have to resubmit a birth certificate.
You can become a member of USATF by clicking on this link and filing out the online form with USATF. Our Club number is 393. ***IMPORTANT*** Please enter that number in the area on the USATF site asking for Club Affiliation. Once you have completed your online membership, please immediately send us an email [email@example.com]with your assigned USATF individual membership number. The cost of a 1-year Youth (18 & under) USATF membership is only $20, payable directly to USATF, and a portion of that amount may be tax-deductible. Memberships are valid for their current calendar year. Important youth membership Information: Athletes cannot register for or compete in a meet unless their birth date has been verified by USATF Colorado. You must email a photocopy (scanned or picture from camera/phone) of their birth certificate, passport, drivers license or other legal document clearly showing Date of Birth. Email to Lindsey Koch at firstname.lastname@example.org. Do not delay your birth certificate verification. USATF will receive numerous requests for verification and any submission made last minute may not get verified in time to compete.
If you are already a member of USATF, but not a member of Silverback Track Club you will need to inform USATF Colorado by emailing Lindsey Koch at email@example.com that you want to be a Silverback and to transfer your membership to our team. Please also inform your current Club Coach, if you are with another Track Club, and let him/her know you are changing clubs as a courtesy to that Coach.
Step 3: Once your registration has been received you will receive an invoice for payment.
